Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most common questions we get about the One-Year (12-month) MBA program option. Please visit our graduate advising page for more information.

What is the difference between the one-year STEM MBA option and the four-semester STEM MBA option?

  • Prerequisite coursework: the one-year STEM MBA option requires applicants to have taken microeconomics and statistics before enrolling. The  four-semester MBA option does not require these courses as prerequisites.
  • Summer courses: the One-Year MBA option has an online summer session from early June to early August. If you are not available to take classes synchronously during this timeframe, you will not be eligible for this program. The four-semester MBA option does not involve summer courses.
  • Career considerations: The one-year STEM MBA program does not require an internship experience. If you are unsure of your future career path, we recommend pursuing the four-semester MBA option, as it gives you more time to explore career paths and complete an internship where you will develop the connections and experiences needed to help launch your career.

Can I start this program option in the fall or in the spring?

No, this program option only begins in the summer, and runs from June to May.

I'm an undergraduate business major. Should I pursue this program option?

While the one-year (12-month) STEM MBA program is an option, SOM offers other MBA program options that may be better suited for your previous experience and education. Explore all of our STEM MBA options here.
