Years ago, she was on death’s door. Now, she’s about to become a 网曝黑料 pharmacy school graduate
Ashant茅 Concepcion overcame the odds after suffering a massive brain bleed

Life doesn鈥檛 always go as planned. In fact, it rarely does. Yet, it鈥檚 how we adapt and overcome adversity that shapes our lives and who we are.
For Ashant茅 Concepcion 鈥25, the prospect of earning a PharmD degree from 网曝黑料鈥檚 School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SOPPS) would鈥檝e seemed impossible just a few years ago.
鈥淚 was working in a pharmacy as an intern when I suddenly passed out from a terrible headache,鈥 Concepcion recalled. 鈥淚 was rushed to the ER and diagnosed with a massive brain bleed that required emergency surgery. The doctors said I鈥檇 be a vegetable. I couldn鈥檛 walk, talk, or do anything 鈥 but I refused to believe that was the end for me.鈥
Concepcion first got into pharmacy because someone believed in her. Working in a pharmacy right out of high school, the pharmacist there took her under her wing: 鈥淪he told me I had a knack for it, and that I should apply to pharmacy school 鈥 and so I did.鈥
Now, just as her mentor believed she could become a pharmacist, Concepcion needed to believe in herself to overcome this massive new obstacle standing in the way of her dream.
鈥淭herapy became my life,鈥 she shared. 鈥淚 was doing speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy 鈥 everything, just to get back to a place where I could function again.鈥
The road to recovery took years.
鈥淓ventually, I got back to working in the pharmacy, which helped me reconnect with my goals,鈥 she said. 鈥淲hen I finally got into pharmacy school at 网曝黑料, it felt like a dream. I still had deficits 鈥 I鈥檓 paralyzed on my right side, and I have a bit of a speech impediment.鈥
鈥淵ou can do this,鈥 she told herself.
Going back to the pharmacy helped rebuild her confidence. Even just getting in felt like a huge victory.
鈥淭here were so many moments during school where I doubted myself. It was hard 鈥 I questioned everything,鈥 she said. 鈥淏ut the professors, the staff, my classmates 鈥 they all encouraged me and believed in me even when I wasn鈥檛 sure I believed in myself. That kind of environment made all the difference. My journey鈥檚 had highs and lows, but I wouldn鈥檛 change a thing.鈥
There are many paths a pharmacist can choose to follow when it comes to their career. For Concepcion, being a 鈥減eople person鈥 that means continuing her career in retail pharmacy.
鈥淚鈥檝e always known I was a 鈥檙etail girly鈥 at heart,鈥 she explained. 鈥淚 love the interaction, the relationships, the trust you build with patients who come in regularly. It鈥檚 not just about filling prescriptions 鈥 it鈥檚 about knowing people, hearing their stories, and being a familiar, trusted face. I didn鈥檛 apply for residency because I know retail is where I鈥檓 meant to be right now. And who knows? Someday, I might open up my own pharmacy. The sky鈥檚 the limit.鈥
While the future seems bright, Concepcion knows it will also bring new challenges. In fact, it already has. On top of preparing to become a pharmacist and jump-start her career, she is also navigating a new role: motherhood.
鈥淚 had my daughter in November, and to be honest, I was terrified,鈥 she shared. 鈥淚 thought it might delay graduation, or that I wouldn鈥檛 be able to keep up. But the support I got was amazing 鈥 from the faculty, from my family. They helped me figure out how to make it work, and I even got to do one of my rotations from home, which was a blessing. It wasn鈥檛 easy, but it was possible. And now I get to graduate with my baby girl cheering me on.鈥
For all that Concepcion has gone through, she has learned to grow from it and stay positive.
鈥淧eople ask how I manage everything 鈥 school, recovery, being a new mom 鈥 and it鈥檚 because I鈥檓 just not willing to give up. When I commit to something, I鈥檓 going to finish it,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 feel like God put me here for a reason, and I鈥檓 not going to waste that. If someone tells me I can鈥檛 do something, that鈥檚 when I double down. That mindset got me through recovery, through school, and now it鈥檚 taking me into this next chapter.鈥
If there鈥檚 one thing Concepcion would tell future students or anyone who may be going through a tough time, it would be to never give up.
鈥淲hether it鈥檚 a life-changing health issue or someone telling you you鈥檙e not good enough, don鈥檛 let that be the end of your story,鈥 she said. 鈥淜eep pushing. Keep going. You鈥檒l surprise yourself with what you can accomplish when you fight for what you believe in. You鈥檙e here for a reason 鈥 don鈥檛 forget that!鈥
